As the President of Barker Hutchinson, Greg assists our clientele to solve problems by empowering them with the information necessary to make fair and informed decisions. Greg is responsible for both maintaining and developing client relations while also providing investigation training and workshops for professional regulators and insurers and speaking at conferences and continuing professional education events.

Greg is also deeply focused on building a sophisticated, methodical, yet pragmatic team of investigators from a variety of backgrounds, and ensuring our team has the training, skill set and support necessary to both thrive as investigators and bring meaningful conclusions to our clients. Greg takes pride in being a hands-on resource to our entire team.

With nearly 15 years experience as an investigator, Greg brings a wealth of investigative expertise to professional regulators, insurers, and select corporate and criminal defence clients. Greg has significant experience investigating allegations of fraud/inappropriate billing practices, sexual abuse, unauthorized practice and undercover matters, amongst other professional misconduct and practice related issues, for professional regulators. Greg also has substantial experience investigating fraud, personal injury, staged accidents, vehicular theft and priority disputes, amongst other concerns, for insurers.

Greg was an analyst in the reinsurance industry prior to joining Barker Hutchinson in 2008. He obtained an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph.

Courtney’s practice is primarily focused on conducting investigations for our regulatory clients.  Courtney blends her experience practising labour and employment law with her significant experience working in-house at several Ontario health regulatory bodies to provide investigative solutions tailored to the needs of our clients.

As the Manager of Investigations, Courtney is responsible for the strategic oversight of regulatory investigations while also maintaining her own smaller caseload. Courtney works with investigators to ensure each investigation meets our standards for quality, thoroughness and timeliness, and also meets each regulator’s expectations.  Courtney also assists in the design and implementation of investigation policy and process. 

Prior to joining Barker Hutchinson, Courtney held several senior positions within health regulatory bodies.  She was the Director of Professional Conduct at the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists, the Manager of Professional Conduct at the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario, and the Discipline and Fitness to Practice Lead at the College of Pharmacists of Ontario.   She has also acted as the Interim Hearing Manager at the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Courtney has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 2007.  She practised labour and employment law as an associate at two prominent Toronto law firms prior to working in professional regulation.

Courtney obtained her LL.M from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law where she was awarded the faculty of law fellowship.  She obtained her LL.B. at Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University where she graduated with high distinction and was awarded the alumni gold medal.

Leah has over 20 years experience in office administration and management.

Leah keeps Barker Hutchinson operating smoothly by handling all of our office management, human resources and administration.  Leah is also a licensed private investigator and assists with background investigation and open source intelligence research.

Leah was the office manager at a mid-sized law firm and the manager of administration at a software company prior to joining Barker Hutchinson.

Leah has a diploma in medical office administration and a human resources management certificate from Mohawk College.

Robin has conducted investigations almost exclusively on behalf of Ontario’s health regulatory bodies for the past thirty years.

Robin’s experience is largely focused on investigating allegations of sexual and physical abuse.  She also has extensive experience investigating other areas of professional misconduct as well as conducting undercover investigations.

Robin graduated from the Diploma Nursing program at Loyalist College in 1984.  She was registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario from 1985 until 2009, when she retired from nursing. Robin worked with various nursing agencies in the Toronto area between 1985 and 1988 when she became licensed as a private investigator.

Shanna’s practice is primarily focused on assisting our regulatory clients.  Shanna has extensive experience conducting undercover investigations.  She has developed comprehensive strategies for investigating allegations of improper billing practices, unauthorized practice and other practice related issues in an undercover capacity, at times while utilizing her fluency in Cantonese.  Shanna also has significant experience investigating allegations of professional misconduct in a formal capacity.

Shanna was an investigator with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario prior to joining Barker Hutchinson. She previously also worked as a legal assistant at two prominent Toronto law firms for more than a decade.

Shanna is a member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.  She also has specialized training in Manual Lymph Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy.  Shanna obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from McMaster University and is fluent in Cantonese.

Duncan is a skilled investigator and interviewer who conducts investigation on behalf of both regulators and insurers. Duncan investigates allegations of inappropriate billing, unauthorized practice, scope of practice, sexual abuse, and a variety of other practice related concerns on behalf of regulators. Duncan also investigates personal injury, fraud and priority disputes, amongst other matters, for insurers.

Duncan’s takes a methodical, detail-oriented approach to each investigation. He works thoroughly to understand the intricacies of each matter and ensure our clients can make fair, informed decisions.

Duncan practised insurance law prior to joining Barker Hutchinson. He gained extensive experience investigating insurance claims regarding personal injuries, fatal injuries, construction matters, property damage and commercial losses. Duncan litigated various corporate commercial matters, which involved due diligence investigation and compliance with regulatory requirements. Duncan was a laboratory analyst and provided a suite of environmental chemical analyses prior to practising insurance law.

Duncan earned both his Juris Doctor (JD) and Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Dalhousie University.

Andrew brings seven years of legal experience to Barker Hutchinson.

Andrew investigates allegations of inappropriate billing, sexual abuse, boundary violations and other conduct and practice related concerns.  Andrew is a skilled interviewer and an engaged listener with an ability to put people at ease in difficult circumstances.  His practical, methodical nature assists him in bringing clarity to complex investigations.

Andrew practised personal injury law at a respected boutique firm prior to joining Barker Hutchison. Andrew independently handled complex cases from first client contact through to resolution. He collected, reviewed and analyzed large volumes of evidence and health records. Andrew also gained experience defending physicians involved in regulatory proceedings while articling at a leading litigation firm.

Andrew earned his Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.  Andrew also holds an Honours degree in history from the University of Toronto, where he graduated with High Distinction.  Andrew was the Program Coordinator for Pro Bono Students Canada during law school and also provided legal advice to a diverse client base while volunteering at community legal clinics.

Ashley investigates allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate billing, boundary violations, and other practice related concerns for our regulatory clients. Ashley is an experienced interviewer with an ability to create an environment where individuals feel comfortable speaking about their experience. Ashley’s impartiality, practical experience, and careful assessment of evidence results in efficient and focused investigations.

Ashley practised in the Health Law and Sexual Assault/Abuse practice groups at a prominent Toronto law firm prior to joining Barker Hutchinson.  Ashley litigated on behalf of victims of sexual assault while also advocating for physicians before the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and the courts.   Ashley also previously practised in the Arbitration and Investigations group at another international law firm.

Ashley earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa where she graduated Cum Laude.  She completed a Master of Arts in International Affairs at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, graduating with Honours, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & Global Culture Studies from Brescia University College at Western University.

Apart from her investigative practice, Ashley has a passion for advocating for those without a voice.  She sits on the Board of Directors of Courage for Freedom, an organization devoted to ending human trafficking within Canada. She has previously worked, trained or partnered with a variety of organizations, including Just Governance Group, the NATO Association of Canada, International Justice Mission and Global Shapers Toronto.

Maya is a skilled investigator whose attention to detail and practical experience result in fair and focused investigations. Maya investigates allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate billing, boundary violations, incompetence, unauthorized practice, and other practice related concerns. Her neutrality and empathetic demeanour create an environment where individuals feel comfortable sharing their experience.

Maya practised at a law firm specialising in health law and professional regulation prior to joining Barker Hutchinson. Maya acted as a prosecutor for professional regulators and was involved in all aspects of hearings related to disciplinary, registration and fitness to practise matters. She regularly appeared before tribunals and various levels of court, and routinely reviewed and scrutinized investigation reports. Maya has also acted as legal counsel at the Ontario Securities Commission.

Maya earned her Juris Doctor (JD) from Osgoode Hall and an Honours Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) from Western University. Maya also currently sits on the Baycrest Research Ethics Board where she reviews research proposals.

As the Vice-President of Barker Hutchinson, Laura is passionate about all things investigation and deeply focused on training and mentoring our sophisticated team of investigators. Laura manages the development of policy and process that supports our investigators and aligns with the needs of our clientele.  Laura also works closely with management to ensure policy and process is consistently applied.

Laura brings a wealth of experience to our regulatory clients.  She blends extensive health care knowledge and practical experience with years of experience as an investigator to bring clarity to complex investigations.  Laura has extensive experience investigating allegations of sexual abuse, patient injury, inappropriate billing practices, incompetence, unauthorized practice, and other practice related concerns.

Laura previously practised physiotherapy for nearly a decade.  She worked in both private practice and as a team physiotherapist with the Canadian National Track Cycling Team, and was rostered to perform spinal manipulations and acupuncture.

Alex is an experienced investigator whose practice is focused on assisting our regulatory clients. Alex has extensive experience investigating allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate billing practices and prescribing practices.

As the Manager of Investigations, Alex is responsible for the strategic oversight of regulatory investigations while also maintaining her own smaller caseload. Alex works with investigators to ensure each investigation meets our standards for quality, thoroughness and timeliness, and also meets each regulator’s expectations.  Alex also assists in the design and implementation of investigation policy and process.

Alex was an investigator with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario prior to joining Barker Hutchinson. Alex was the lead investigator on a number of high profile cases. She worked closely with College counsel, insurers, law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and regulatory bodies from other jurisdictions. She was also responsible for mentoring investigators.

Alex practised as a registered nurse prior her employment with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Alex practised in the area of mental health and also served as a case manager who conducted and coordinated home health care services.

Alex obtained her Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science from Queens University where she graduated with distinction. Alex also obtained her Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Ontario Institute of Technology where she was awarded several scholarships, including a scholarship for the highest GPA in the Faculty of Health Science. Alex has completed the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulations Certified Investigator and Inspector training as well as training in investigations and interviewing from the Workplace Institute. Alex is also trained in conducting trauma informed interviews.

Wilf is the past president of Barker Hutchinson.

Wilf’s client base includes professional regulators, law firms, insurers and corporations.

Wilf has extensive experience investigating allegations of improper billing, professional misconduct and practice related issues, complaints of sexual abuse and unauthorized practice on behalf of professional regulators.  He also has comprehensive experience investigating fraud, staged accidents and personal injury, amongst many other issues, on behalf of insurers.

Wilf founded W.H. Barker & Associates Ltd. in 1982 after working for more than twenty years as an officer with Metropolitan Toronto Police and as an in-house investigator with a large litigation law firm in Toronto.

Ruth has practised as an investigator for nearly twenty years.  Her current practice is focused primarily on assisting our health regulatory clients, with an emphasis on investigating allegations of sexual abuse.  She also has extensive experience investigating allegations of incapacity, substance abuse, improper billing practices, amongst other professional misconduct and practice related issues.

Prior to joining Barker Hutchinson, Ruth was an investigator with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario for twelve years and with Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario for two years. Ruth has also practised as a psychotherapist.

Ruth has a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Carleton University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Queens University.  She is trained in conducting trauma informed interviews. Ruth is an active member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Hailey brings seven years of legal experience to Barker Hutchinson with a focus on criminal law. Hailey investigates allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate billing, off-duty conduct, and practice related concerns.  Hailey’s experience and her analytical and nuanced approach assists her in bringing clarity to complex investigations.

Hailey practised criminal defence at a respected boutique firm prior to joining Barker Hutchinson.  Her expertise includes cases with large, complex volumes of evidence, reluctant witnesses, mental health concerns and strict timelines.

Hailey has conducted dozens of trials at both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice and was second-chair counsel for one of the largest financial fraud trials in Canadian history.  Hailey has analyzed numerous police investigations and understands the importance of a balanced, unbiased and thorough investigation.

Hailey earned her Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Windsor and her Honours Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Western Ontario.

Sheena brings seven years of legal experience to Barker Hutchinson.

Sheena is a bilingual investigator who investigates allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate billing, boundary violations and other conduct and practice related concerns.  Sheena’s attention to detail, thorough and nuanced approach assists regulators to make fair, informed decisions.

Sheena was a Senior Specialist, Compliance at the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority prior to joining Barker Hutchinson. Sheena managed the Authority’s complaints program, investigated inspection findings and conducted inquiries.  Sheena has also acted as a Decisions Administrator at the College of Nurses of Ontario and practised civil and estate litigation.

Sheena earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.  She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa and a Social Service Worker diploma from George Brown College.

Stephanie is a bilingual investigator who brings more than seven years legal experience to Barker Hutchinson.

Stephanie is a diligent interviewer who brings a fair, perceptive, unbiased approach to each investigation. She conducts investigations for a wide variety of regulators while investigating  allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate billing practice, scope of practice concerns, unauthorized practice, and various other forms of professional misconduct. Her investigations bring clarity to often complex circumstances.

Stephanie practised at a leading commercial litigation and insolvency firm in Toronto prior to joining Barker Hutchinson.  Stephanie also practised regulatory and administrative law in India for four years prior to immigrating to Canada.  She has appeared before the Supreme Court of India and represented stakeholders adversely affected by government decisions and advocated for better governance, accountability and transparency.

Stephanie obtained both her LL.B (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts from Guru Gobind Singh Indhraprastha University in New Delhi, India and graduated with First Class.  She was called to the Bar of Delhi, India in 2013 and the Bar of Ontario in 2020.   She is a member of The Advocates’ Society, Toronto Lawyers Association, the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto and Young Women in Law.

Stephanie is fluent in both English and Hindi.

Nazia investigates allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate billing, unauthorized practice, off-duty conduct, scope of practice, and other practice related concerns on behalf of regulatory bodies.  Nazia brings extensive regulatory experience and a detailed yet pragmatic approach to each investigation.

Nazia has 15 years experience working in health regulation and was a Compliance Case Manager at the College of Physicians and Surgeons prior to joining Barker Hutchinson.  In this role, Nazia analyzed statutory committee decisions and carried out the appropriate monitoring requirements for complex and high risk matters.

Nazia obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from Ryerson University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Linguistics from the University of Toronto.  Nazia is a registered social worker and a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.  Nazia has completed both the basic and specialized National Certified Investigator and Inspector Training programs through the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation.  She has also completed training in Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Ilana is a diligent and pragmatic investigator who conducts investigations for a variety of regulators.  She investigates allegations of incompetence, sexual abuse, inappropriate billing and other professional misconduct and practice related concerns.  Ilana’s methodical, yet pragmatic approach assists her in bringing clarity and transparency to complex investigations, and enables regulators to make fair, informed decisions.

Ilana practised regulatory, criminal, quasi-criminal and personal injury litigation prior to joining Barker Hutchinson.  Ilana represented various professional regulators and defended clients before tribunals on allegations of professional negligence and misconduct.  Ilana has also acted as a content lawyer at Lexis Nexis where she managed personal injury practice guidance for lawyers practising in Ontario and British Columbia.

Ilana earned her Juris Doctor (JD) from Bond University and her Bachelor of Arts from Western University.
