This 3-day course combines storytelling with lecture-style presentation, experiential learning and interactive exercises.
Explore the fundamental skills every investigator needs to know through 7 modules:
Module 1: Principles Of Regulatory Investigations
This module focuses on the key principles of who we are as investigators and the components of a properly conducted investigation. This module includes an overview of the regulatory system as well as ethical, legal and regulatory considerations within investigations.
Module 2: Planning The Investigation
A well-planned investigation is a well-executed investigation. This module teaches a framework for planning investigations and how to utilize investigation plans as a living organizational tool to ensure no steps are missed and no unnecessary steps taken.
Module 3: Evidence Collection
This module examines various methods for collecting evidence and the factors to consider. It includes an in-depth review of best practices for each evidence collection method and troubleshooting tips for challenges that may arise as well as facilitated group work to enhance learning.
Module 4: Interviewing
Investigative interviewing is both an art and a science. This module explores how to identify and select witnesses, how to effectively prepare for an interview and strategies to produce thorough yet efficient interviews. This module also provides opportunities to develop and practice effective interview skills in small groups.
Module 5: Note-Taking & Reporting
This module covers the fundamentals of writing clear, concise, and complete reports and memorandums as well as best practices for clear and accurate note-taking.
Module 6: Conflict Management
Conflict is a common occurrence in regulatory investigations; effectively navigating conflict is crucial for successful outcomes. This module will explore various conflict management styles and apply conflict management approaches to real scenarios that can arise throughout the investigation.
Module 7: Managing Bias
Unconscious biases are powerful and risk influencing investigations without proper management. This module will review common biases, explore the science behind bias and outline strategies to mitigate our own biases to produce neutral, unbiased investigations.
